Aftercare

Eight rules

Print this, put it in the take home bag, and go through it while the client is still in the chair. Wear time is decided in the first week, not the last.

  1. 01

Wash twice a week, not daily

Extensions do not receive scalp oil, so every wash costs you condition you cannot get back. Twice a week, lukewarm, working the shampoo into the scalp and letting the run off do the lengths.

  2. 02

Conditioner below the bond, never on it

This is the single rule clients break. Conditioner on a tape tab or a keratin bond softens it and the row slips at week four. Mid lengths to ends only.

  3. 03

Brush from the ends up, three times a day

A loop brush, ends first, working up in sections, supporting the row with the other hand. Thirty seconds. The difference between a client who comes back and a client who tears a weft out.

  4. 04

    Never sleep on it wet

Wet hair plus eight hours of movement equals matting at the nape that no salon appointment fully undoes. Rough dry the row before bed, always.

  5. 05

    Loose braid, silk pillowcase

A low loose braid or a silk scrunchie, on a silk pillowcase. Cotton drags. This is not an upsell, it is the second half of the instruction.

  6. 06

    Heat protectant every single time

The hair does not repair itself. Every unprotected pass is permanent and cumulative. If a client will only buy one retail product, sell her this one.

  7. 07

    Mask once a week

Ten minutes, mid lengths to ends, rinsed cool. Weekly. More than that and the hair goes stiff and stops taking a curl.

  8. 08

Book the move up before she leaves

Six to eight weeks for beads and tape, ten to twelve for keratin. A client who books on the way out does not turn up at week sixteen with a matted row.

The take home kit

All care

Four products. Sell all four with the first install and the client stops improvising with whatever is in the shower.
