Where it comes from

Every gram of hair we sell is bought from Fancy Best, a family run mill in China that collects and constructs European hair. We are not shy about either half of that sentence.

The country a mill sits in tells you nothing. The way it buys tells you everything.

There is a habit in this industry of using the word European as a synonym for ethical and the word Chinese as a synonym for cheap. Neither is true, and both are lazy. Hair is European or it is not, based on the donor. A mill is ethical or it is not, based on how it pays and what it documents.

Fancy Best is our partner because they let us audit both. We have seen the collection records. We have seen what a donor is paid. We have been in the room while bundles were sorted, and we have sent orders back when they were not right.

We buy from them directly rather than through a distributor, which is why our hair costs what it costs rather than what it would cost after three margins.

Six steps

  1. 01

    Collection

    Hair is collected in salons and directly from donors across Eastern and Southern Europe. One head, one bundle. It is never mixed, because mixing is where traceability quietly dies.

  2. 02

    Payment

    The donor is paid at the point of collection, in cash, at a rate that reflects what the hair is actually worth downstream. No agents, no debt arrangements, no salon taking a cut on the donor's behalf.

  3. 03

    Sorting

    Fancy Best sorts by root direction, length and natural depth before anything is processed. This is the step cheap suppliers skip, and it is the reason cheap hair mats at the nape after two months.

  4. 04

    Processing

    Only what is needed to reach a shade. Low volume lifting over a long window rather than a hard strip, so the cuticle survives. Anything darker than 06 is not lifted at all.

  5. 05

    Construction

    Wefts are sewn, tabs are pressed, keratin is moulded. Hand tied wefts are made by people who have made them for years, which you can feel in the seam.

  6. 06

    Inspection

    Every bundle is checked here in Calgary before it goes into stock. We reject around one in twelve. Those go back to the mill, not into a sale bin.

Things we will not do

  • Mix donors inside a bundle and call it single donor.
  • Sell temple hair or unsourced collected hair as European.
  • Silicone coat a bundle so it feels good for three washes.
  • Print a certificate we cannot stand behind.
  • Undercut a stylist by selling the same hair direct at a lower price.

If you ever catch us doing any of the above, say so publicly. We would rather lose the sale than the argument.
